Dr. Lori Franke-Hopkins ~ Digital Professional Portfolio
Beginning post-secondary education after graduating from Calhoun High School in 1985, I traveled to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale to pursue a degree. I had no professional path in mind and no idea where to go to find the career that aligned with my passion. I lacked experience in the world and the desire and fortitude to take college seriously. After just one semester, I dropped out of college and made my way to the enlistment center where I investigated another option: the United States Marine Corps. This was a very important life decision that helped steer me in a direction of purpose.

Writing a thesis is a difficult, time-consuming process. Completion of this project would not have been possible without the assistance of so many. I would like to begin by thanking my committee chair, Dr. Laurie Puchner, who consistently provided me with her time, expertise and guidance. I am also very grateful to committee members, Dr. Phillip Buckley, Dr. Betsy Meinz, and the Education Administration professors whose shared knowledge and skills have been instrumental to my success. I am very grateful to my husband, Scott, for his love and patience. He has been my greatest cheerleader, always encouraging me throughout this experience. He has also been so critical in supporting our daughters in their activities while I attended class, conducted research, and wrote this thesis. My girls, Shayelle, Delani and Korrie, have also been patient and supportive of my education goals, knowing just how important education is to success in life. Finally, to my family, especially my parents, friends, colleagues, and the Board of Education who have been so wonderful throughout the years, patiently supporting me as I complete my educational goal, I thank you for everything!
